Innovation in Design

Environmental design contributes to strategies of conservation, stewardship, and regeneration that can be applied to all levels of scale from individual buildings to communities. The goal is designing this facility was to reduce the environmental impact of the production of building components, the construction process, and energy consumption throughout the lifecycle of the building. The Advanced Business and Technology Education Center incorporates numerous innovations in its design.

Renewable Energy

This facility is exceeding LEED New Construction performance by choosing to purchase 70% of its power through Renewable Energy Credits for a two year period.

Green Housekeeping

Green products including bathroom cleaners, general purpose cleaners, floor care, carpet and upholstery care, hand care, and industrial degreasers are used in this facility. Whenever possible, all cleaning products are limited to those with minimal environmental impact.

Professional Design

LEED Accredited Professional Architect Gary D. Williams was hired to lead the design team in order to ensure that certification was achieved. Williams is the current President of the American Institute of Architects, Las Cruces Chapter, as well as a past President of AIA New Mexico. He is also a Board Member of the New Mexico State University Art Museum.

Interactive Kiosk

This kiosk was created to facilitate interactive learning. It is a permanent display and provides components of each of the five major green building categories in the LEED rating system. Please use this informational tool to learn more about how Green Building principals were applied to the construction of this facility.
